Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), asking the Agency to investigate Prof Josphat Mwatelah, the sacked vice-chancellor of the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). He was sacked following investigations that raised concern over his integrity, abuse of office and mul-administration in his office.
In a letter to the EACC chairman Philip Kinisu, the CS wants Prof Mwatela investigated alongside other university officials for abuse of office.
Dr Matiang’i overruled the decision by the University Council, which gave him a warning letter while serving suspension since February this year, after finding him guilty of eight out of ten charges levelled against him.
However leaders from Coastal region led by Kilifi governor Amason Kingi have faulted the CS’s move, saying Mwatelah has been wrongly targeted.
They want him reinstated.
TUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof Leila Uweso Abubakar took over Mwatelah’s position in an acting capacity.
