Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba has been put on the spot by the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee for allegedly spending over 73 million shillings, public funds, within a month.
According to the Anyang’ Nyong’o-led Committee, there is no proof that the money was used for specific projects for the county.
Khaemba is said to have withdrawn the monies in bits from the Kenya Commercial Bank in June 2014.
Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, the Trans Nzoia Governor found himself in trouble after he failed to provide receipts or any documents that could prove the transactions and spending after he was asked to do so.
Khaemba was allowed more time to source for the documents before re-appearing before the Committee at a date to be scheduled.
This comes few days after Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa appeared before the same Committee where he was grilled on matters county financial operations in relation to the Auditor General’s report.
The report indicates that he mismanaged 111 million shillings meant for the county.
He also could not explain how the money was spent and later accused Senate Committees of harassing governors for personal reasons whenever they appeare before the Committees.
