Machakos County governor Dr Alfred Mutua has interdicted two chief officers and suspended over thirty six officers in County’s Water Department.
He said the officers failed to meet the set deadlines and further failed to deliver Water Programs as set by the County government.
Those interdicted will be out of duty for two to three months. Others have been permanently suspended and others for only two months.
“I have today (Wednesday) interdicted two Chief Officers and either interdicted or suspended over 36 officers in the Water Ministry.”
According to Mutua, they are also being investigated for various criminal cases such as Theft of fuel from county vehicles; Diversion of drilling rigs from public to private homes and Receiving and asking for bribes and other unethical behaviours.
“The culture of “process” to change to a culture of “results. Wananchi to see roads, water, proper healthcare among other services in a timely and efficient manner. A deadline that is not met means an additional day of suffering by our people. This will not be tolerated by me and my government,” warned Dr Mutua.
The governor has further appointed an Acting Chief officer and a Project Completion Assistant Director in the county’s Project Delivery Unit.
He has since warned all county officers that he will not tolerate incompetence and corruption and asked anyone engaging in such, to be ready to go home.
“The spirit of Maendeleo Chap Chap is quality, efficient delivery of development projects and service. The message is clear. Work or go home.”
He addressed the press outside his offices in Machakos town.
