Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka has faulted Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i for banning prayer days and visiting days in boarding schools. The CS introduced the guidelines in a bid to curb cheating in national exams.
The MP says Matiang’i’s regulations can not tame examination irregularities, adding that they only but infringe student’s rights. He said ban on prayer days deny student’s rights to worship, while ban on visitings will demotivate them, for some depend guardian’s motivation ahead of any huge task.
According to the lawmaker, the guidelines do not apply to day schools, a clear indication that the Education CS has not rolled necessary punitive measures to curb exam cheating menace. He now wants the guidelines revoked and more consultations made over the issue.
Extension of second term by two weeks, ban on half-terms in third term are also other guidelines set by Matiang’i to curb examination cheating.
