Over 1,000 street lights have been installed in Lodwar town and its environs, Turkana County.
The infrastructural development aims to enhance security and extend business hours for traders, the business community and residents to make the governor Josphat Nanok’s-led county, a 24-hour economy.
According to the County chief executive officer in charge of Planning, Mark Elisit, the county government intends to extend more street lights to other towns and markets within the county.
He, on Monday said areas such as Kulukut have been earmarked ready for installation.
Besides business and security purposes, the lighting aims to attract more tourists to the county, which is believed to be the home to the human kind, after first human fossils were excavated in the area.
Turkana county is also rich in traditions, fish (from Lake Turkana), and oil.
