A High Court in Kitale has suspended purchasing of land worth Sh185 million, that would be used to construct a modern state-of-the-art health facility by the County Government of Trans Nzoia.
While issuing the ruling, Justice Hillary Chemitei said area governor Patrick Khaemba failed to engage residents in assessing the purchasing process and the entire project, which Khaemba intended to use, to lure the electorate into voting for him come August 2017.
The governor will be seeking to retain his gubernatorial position during the general polls.
The case was filed by Trans Nzoia County residents, Fred Maruti and Timothy Afubwa, who argued that the county government did not engage them in the purchasing of the piece of land.
The Court, Thursday, also directed that the county government returns all the funds that would be used for the purchase, back to the county kitty.
