Expert: Women aged 35-45 account for high rate of still births

Women giving birth at an advanced age, account for 30 per cent of newborns, born prematurely each month, at Nairobi’s Pumwani maternity Hospital.

The facility’s deputy supritendant Dr Catherine Mutinda says women aged between 35 to 45 years are most likely to deliver through C-serian section due to their hardened borns, making it difficult for safe deliveries.

To curb this, the facility which is the oldest maternity health centre in the country has embarked on training its nurses on Kangaroo mother-care as a standard method for all newborns born prematurely and full-term.
