Police in Busia have launched a manhunt for a group of people who portray as custom officers at the Kenya-Uganda border at Busia, and extort monies from unaware passengers.
This is after four people were arrested by the police, following a tip off from some of the victims, and legal custom officers on Wednesday.
According to area OCPD Benard Kioko, a search was carried out with help of the custom officers, a move that led to the arrest of the four.
“We have arrested four people following with help of custom and migration officers, following complaints from passengers entering and leaving Kenya and Uganda, that people are extorting monies from them,” Kioko told the press.
He further indicated that they are investigating the four, to find out if whether or not they are among the clearing and forwarding agents, deployed to work in the area by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
