Nairobi County Governor Dr Evans Kidero today finally appeared before the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee (PAC) after he was attacked by senator Mike Sonko, with both engaging in a brawl during his first appearance to the Committee two weeks ago.
Kidero defended his county government against claims of misappropriation of public funds as raised by the audit report of the Auditor General, Edward Ouko.
Responding to questions from members of the Kisumu Senator Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o-led Committee, the governor said the County Government of Nairobi has doubled its revenue collection rate from Sh6 billion to Sh12 billion since he assumed office three years ago, an indication that he has brought positive changes to the people of Nairobi.
However, he failed tto produce relevant documents that showed some of his spending, with him telling PAC that the document got lost.
About the brawl with his political rival Sonko, Kidero told the Committee that he expects legal action be taken against him for accusing him of murder and linking him to corruption.
Governors had vowed to snub summons from PAC, on grounds that senators target the political at personal levels.
