The Government Chief Auditor General Edward Ouko says there is a possibility that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) may be disbanded over mismanagement of public funds.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on Thursday, Ouko said IEBC lost Sh4 billion during the leasing of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits.
He said the Commissioners to the electoral body also failed to adhere to procurement laws during the purchasing of electoral materials that were used in the 2013 general elections and by-elections that came shortly after.
Ouko appeared before the Samuel Chepkonga-led Committee, to shed light over procurement loopholes that his report revealed.
This is in-relation to a petition by a Kenyan, Barasa Nyukuri, who wants the IEBC disbanded for alleged incompetence and lack of integrity.
