Learning services were this morning brought to a standstill at Kaimosi Boys High School in Vihiga County, after a fire incident razed down a dormitory housing form Two and Three students.
A section of students say the fire is likely to have been lit by form four students who were sent home by the school Board of Management (BOG), for indiscipline cases on Wednesday this week.
“SSome students were sent home on Wednesday over indiscipline cases and when they returned with their parents, BOG told them to go back home and come to do the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). They are likely to be behind the fire,” said one of the students.
Students however faulted the County’s fire and emergency department for failing to arrive on time, to assist put off the fire.
Cases of fire in schools across Kenya have been rampant since April 2016, with stakeholders putting blame on each other.
However Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi affirmed that he’ll soon release a report on the incidents in due course.
This is after he received reports from two taskforces formed to investigate the matter.
