Justice Joseph Mutava defended himself before the tribunal formed to probe his conduct.
This is after he was found guilty of misconduct while handling three cases which include the acquittal of businessman Kamlesh Pattni from the Sh5.8 billion noldenberg scandal.
Appearing before the tribunal chaired by Justice David Maraga on Wednesday, Mutava said he freed Pattni on legal grounds and neither did he favour him.
He indicated that he did not decide to hear and rule on the case by himself, but he acted as directed by a letter from the Deputy Registrar of the Crimes Unit, which asked him to handle the Goldenberg scam case.
According to him, there was no other judge to handle the case at that time.
He was suspended in May 2013 following a probe by the Judicial Service Commission, and if found guilty, Mutava risks sacking from the Judiciary.
