Members of Parliament have adopted a report by Public Accounts Committee (PAC), proposing that former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, be barred from vying in the upcoming polls.
Members unanimously endorsed the report on the Special National Youth Service (NYS) 1.8 billion scam audit, after the speaker Justin Muturi put the question on the floor of the house, Wednesday.
The report which named Waiguru as the mastermind of the scam which rocked the country in 2015, also recommended that suspects in the scam be thoroughly investigated, charged and a lifestyle audit be done to them.
They include former Principal Secretary (PS) Peter Mangiti,Josephine Kabura, ex-NYS director general Nelson Githinji and his deputy Aden Harakhe.
Waiguru who is Jubilee Party’s candidate for Kirinyaga County governorship race, now risks being blocked from vying, if relevant institutions implement the report, or any Kenyan heads to the anti-graft agency EACC, to block her clearance.
The PAC chaired by Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo’s, report further recommends that Central Bank of Kenya governor Patrick Njoroge be investigated for allegedly abetting graft.
