Kisumu gubernatorial aspirant, senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o has been cleared to vie.
This came after Nyong’o named Mathews Ochieng Owili, who hails from Nyakach, as his running mate.
The two, flanked by Ruth Odinga and Nyongo’s wife, Dorothy, arrived at the Kisumu Regional IEBC offices, where they were cleared by the Returning Officer.
This sets stage for a bruising battle, with incumbent governor, Jack Ranguma, who is vying as an Independent candidate.
Ranguma who was cleared a day before, picked Nyando Sub-county KNUT secretary Ephraim Kananga as his running mate, dropping Ruth Odinga.
Nyong’o, an ODM party candidate, also faces rivalry from Jubilee Party’s Atieno Otieno
“We call for a free and fair poll, all candidates must also exercise decorum even as they campaign,” said Nyong’o who addressed the press shortly after being handed the nomination certificate.
