Buzeki sponsors 2-day Eldoret 7s Rugby tournament

As Kenyans gear up for August 8, polls, Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate Budotich Buzeki is promoting peace in the North Rift County by sponsoring a Rugby Sevens tournament for peace in Eldoret.

Dubbed ‘Eldoret 7s’, the tournament is in partnership of the umbrella body committee of Eldoret Sevens with Moi University Rugby club, Eldoret Falcons Rugby club and the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).

The event will bring together 16 teams from across the country for a competition.

“I am promoting peace being a paramount need as we head to the elections and we must maintain peace at all costs in and out of Uasin Gishu County and the country at large,” said the wealthy businessman, who seeks to unseat governor Jackson Mandago, on an independent candidate.

“One thing that often makes potential investors think twice about investing in our beautiful county is the state of peace and order and therefore we must preach the message of peace as much as we can to ensure that we do not turn investors away before, during and after the elections. This my plea to all residence of Uasin Gishu at this time of the year,” said the politician, who is also the deputy chairman of the Kenya Association of Independent Candidates (KAIC).

The tournament is scheduled to take place at the famous Eldoret Sports club from Friday June 30, to July 1, 2017 with more than 20 teams in place.

Here is a list of teams confirmed so far: Moi Arsonist, Eldoret Falcons, Eldoret RFC, MKU Kakamega, MKU Nairobi, UoE trojans, Kabras RFC, Kisii RFC, KPA Eldoret Rugby Club and Aviators Rugby Club among others.

“I’m glad to take Machakos County as a classical example that has supported Masaku 7s since and even made it an international tournament. I have taken that as a challenge and would like to start with this as we focus for future tournament’s within our county to elevate our posterity.”

“I have sponsored fully the tournament. I believe sports is part and parcel of our communities within but it had missed the summing power of reviving and support to it,let’s allow this to be a change-set for Sports in Uasin Gishu I being a sportman I will lead as others follow,” said Buzeki, Monday.

Mr and Miss Eldoret 7s will close the curtain of the tournament at the same venue.
