Differences between Mombasa governor and his gubernatorial opponent, Senator Hassan Omar, has escalated, despite both being opposition politicians.
Omar is vying through the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (WDM-K), to unseat Joho, who is the ODM party deputy leader. Both are top politicians in the National Super Alliance (Nasa).
The Wiper secretary general, has attacked Joho, who seeks to defend his seat, saying he insults President Uhuru Kenyatta, for political mileage.
According to him, Joho’s ‘differences’ with the president are well orchestrated by himself (Joho), so as to win sympathy votes from Mombasa residents, on claims that Uhuru attacks him, for no reason.
Speaking in Mombasa, Sunday, Omar challenged Joho to outline to residents what he has been doing to empower them, instead of hurling insults to Uhuru.
“We can only celebrate you if you deliver on the development promises you made and created jobs for the jobless youth. Just because their is freedom of expression, abusing the president is not heroism,” said the legislator, during a rally at Tononoka Grounds, Mvita Sub-county.
He expressed optimism of clinching the county’s top seat, adding that he was the people’s best choice.
